Grove Referrals is a second opinion centre providing small animal referrals in:
- Orthopaedics
- Spinal surgery
Our surgeons have a wealth of knowledge and experience in their respective fields and their skills are enhanced by support from surgical assistants and a fully trained nursing staff.
The professional and efficient service we provide is only possible by ensuring a close and friendly working relationship with referring veterinarians. This helps maximise the benefit to the patient and clients referral experience.
We offer an emergency service on a 24/7 basis. A surgeon is always available to discuss cases and give advice over the phone either to determine whether referral is necessary or if referral is not possible

Referral expectations
For new cases your clients will be seen by one of our Surgeons for a consultation lasting between 30-45 minutes. Following a detailed clinical examination we will discuss our initial findings and possible further diagnostics and treatment as considered appropriate. We will give an estimate of costs and likely duration of treatment.

Communication
We will aim to provide you with a full referral report within 24 hours of treatment. For cases that are hospitalised for prolonged periods we will update you immediately after initial treatment and then aim to provide a follow-up report at the time of discharge. Reports are faxed and posted, however, to minimise the use of paper we encourage all referring vets to provide us with a contact e-mail address so we can send reports and relevant images electronically.

Follow up
All surgical cases will usually require a follow-up appointment at your practice 10 days postoperatively to assess wound healing and remove any sutures/staples. Patients discharged with dressings and external skeletal fixators will often need regular appointments at your practice to ensure adequate postoperative management up until their scheduled follow-up appointment at the Grove. Care of these patients is normally outlined in our referral reports, however should there be any confusion, or our instructions are unclear then please contact us to clarify our intentions. Often clients perception of what is required is slightly different to what we intended or have indicated in our reports!

Emergencies / out of hours
Genuine emergency referrals are accepted on a 24 hour/day basis. All emergency referrals should be arranged between the surgeon on emergency duty and the referring vet.
